AMD Roadmap through 2011

At the beginning of this week a slide was found on a Finnish website showing an updated roadmap of AMD’s mainstream and high-end platforms, providing additional information regarding this platforms for the upcoming 2 years.

As we’re already at the end of 2009 we will start with 2010 were the new ” LEO” platform will be unveiled according to this roadmap for high-end systems and the “DORADO” will represent the mainstream systems. Both systems will be compatible with DDR3 memory and will have at least a 4-core CPU.
The SB850 will use the new SATA 3 controller with speeds of 6 GB/s and USB 3.0. It seems, but this is not confirmed, this chipset will only offer support for AM3. The current 785G will be replaced by a RD890 chipset. Whether it will have DirectX 11 or will remain on the current DirectX 10.1 is still unclear.

When we arrive in the year 2011, we hopefully will find the new platforms named “SCORPIUS” and “LYNX” where the scorpius will represent itself for high-end systems and the lynx for mainstream systems. Again this platforms will be both compatible with DDR3 memory and at least a 4-core CPU. This “AM3r2″ suggest that it will be launched for a new revision of the AM3 socket. The Lynx platform is based on the Liano processor. This is AMD’s first APU, accelerated processing unit.
